“Let’s ask Michelle Obama what she wore during #SuperstormSandy.”
Many of those criticizing Melania Trump did not seem to recall that in 2012, then-first lady Michelle Obama asked for money for her husband’s re-election campaign, even as Hurricane Sandy was wrecking havoc on the East Coast.

According to Townhall, Michelle Obama sent out an email on October 29 requesting campaign donations from supporters in North Carolina and Virginia.
“President Obama also cancelled campaign events and White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said on Air Force one that this ‘wasn’t a time for politics’ and that people should focus on responding to the storm,” Towhall editor Katie Pavlich noted at the time.
“But, Hurricane Sandy wasn’t going to stop First Lady Michelle Obama from playing politics yesterday. She sent the following email to supporters in North Carolina and Virginia,” Pavlich added.
President Donald Trump, joined by first lady Melania Trump, members of his Cabinet and Texas officials, spoke briefly from Corpus Christi, Texas on Tuesday.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said the Trump administration has “remained in constant contact with me and my staff, and they all had one thing to say: ‘Texas, what do you need? How can we help?’”
“We want to do it better than ever before. We want to be looked at in five years, in 10 years from now, as this is the way to do it,” Trump said, while seated next to Abbott.
“We won’t say congratulations. We don’t want to do that. We don’t want to congratulate,” Trump said. “We’ll congratulate each other when it’s all finished.”
First lady Melania Trump was heavily criticized Tuesday for wearing high heels prior to boarding Marine One and leaving for Texas.
Photographs surfaced on social media showing the first lady wearing black dress pants, a green jacket and black high heels as she walked out of the White House and got on the helicopter for a scheduled trip to areas devastated by Hurricane Harvey.
“Not sure Melania Trump is prepared for Hurricane Harvey,” said Elliot Wagland, a photographer at the London Evening Standard.

Several journalists joined in on the criticism.
“Those stilettos should help her stay above the flood line,” said Ryan Teague Beckwith, a politics editor for Time magazine.
“Melania is wearing stilettos to a hurricane zone,” Wall Street Journal politics reporter Erica Orden tweeted.
A White House spokesperson confirmed that Melania Trump brought a different pair of shoes and that she planned to change into them upon arrival in Texas, according to the Washington Examiner.
