A family member of one of the most outspoken survivors of the Parkland, Florida high school shooting has gone after first Lady Melania Trump.
Lauren Hogg, the sister of David Hogg, a media fixture since the shooting, attacked the first lady because her stepson, Donald Trump Jr., liked a Twitter status that called the survivors “scripted.”
Not A Conspiracy Theory.
Lauren Hogg said that Trump Jr. liking a tweet has made her life “worse” since the shooting that killed 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
“Hey @FLOTUS you say that your mission as First Lady is to stop cyber bullying, well then, don’t you think it would have been smart to have a convo with your step-son [Donald Trump, Jr.] before he liked a post about a false conspiracy theory which in turn put a target on my back,” the 14-year-old said.
“[And] created a safe space for people all over the world to call me and my family horrific things that constantly re-victimizes us and our community,” she said in another tweet. “I’m 14 I should never have had to deal with any of this and even though I thought it couldn’t get worse it has because of your family.”
Since the shooting, and David Hogg’s media appearances, he and other survivors have been the victims of a conspiracy theory that says they are “crisis actors” who were not students and involved in the shooting.
Other theories have said that the survivors do not attend the school, and one claimed that Hogg was a criminal who has been to prison and is in his twenties.
The conspiracy theories are ridiculous, but they have nothing to do with the tweet that Trump Jr. liked.
What Trump Jr. Liked.
The tweets that Trump Jr. liked were assertions that the kids appeared scripted in their response to the shooting when they appeared on CNN and other media.
It had nothing to do with conspiracy theories that call the student’s actors.
But that has not gotten in the way of those attacking him, including David Hogg.
“I just think it’s a testament to the sick immaturity and broken state of our government when these people feel the need to pedal conspiracy theories about people that were in a school shooting where 17 people died and it just makes me sick,” David Hogg told Buzzfeed News.
“I’m under so much stress,” Rebecca Boldrick, his mother, told The Washington Post. “I’m angry and exhausted. Angry, exhausted and extremely proud.”
It is sad that the survivors are being attacked with ridiculous conspiracy theories, but it is also unfair to accuse Trump Jr. and the first lady of something they did not do.
